OPA proudly announces our spring 2024 production

TARZAN

The Stage Musical

Based on the Disney Film

Adapted from the story "Tarzan of the Apes" by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Originally Produced on Broadway by Disney Theatrical Productions

Congratulations to the cast of Tarzan for their spectacular auditions and callbacks! We hope to have the cast list released Tuesday evening!

Music and Lyrics by Phil Collins

Book by David Henry Hwang

A fusion of Broadway power, Disney magic, and eight-time Grammy winner and rock legend Phil Collins, TARZAN swings into Central Oregon. Blurring the line between fiction and fantasy, TARZAN tells the tender and powerful tale of the shipwrecked, orphaned infant adopted by apes. OPA embarks on this epic voyage to the heart of the African jungle with swinging vines, west-African dance, aerial silks, live orchestra, iconic songs such as "You'll Be In My Heart" and "Strangers Like Me," silverback gorillas, tropical creatures beautiful and deadly, and monsters fantastic. Come aboard as we begin our next OPA adventure and Mainstage Broadway Musical for this story adoption, self-discovery, and two worlds colliding into one family.

Audition Workshop

Friday March 15th, 1:30-3:30

OPTIONAL but encouraged! Anyone may attend the audition workshop, even if you're not registered but just want to see what OPA or Tarzan or auditions and callbacks are all about. Your audition dance(s) will be taught at callbacks. Bring dance clothes, jazz shoes and tap shoes if you have them.

Mock Vocal Auditions

Friday, March 15th, 3:30-5:30

After we're done with the audition workshop you may leave or you may stick around and queue up to try your audition song with live piano accompaniment. We'll be done when we're done; last season this took us about two hours.

Optional Private Auditions for ANY actors

Friday, March 22nd, 1:30-2:00

We encourage all actors, beginners to veterans to audition in our general open audition, but we are making allowance for actors content with ensemble roles to audition privately. Above all we want you to feel comfortable and we want you to be a part of the show, but please know that actors taking the private audition will not be considered for principal roles and will not receive callbacks.

General Open Auditions

Friday, March 22nd

Arrival Window 1:30-6:00

Auditions 2:00-7:00

This is our general auditions. Doors open at 1:30pm.

We are beginning general auditions at 2:00 promptly. Everyone auditioning will be asked to perform a short monologue and song. More details about that can be found in the audition guide.

We host open auditions. That means all your fellow actors and actresses will be there to support and cheer you on! But this season we will have 6 individuals do their monologue, followed by their song and then they will be excused for the day. We encourage and welcome you to stay around for the entire audition day but it is not required. Once your grouping of 6's monologue and song auditions are complete you are allowed to go home.

This means you may arrive anytime in the window of 1:30-6:00. As long as you arrive by 6:00, you will get an audition.

The Audition Day is expected to conclude around 7:00pm.

Principal Callback List

By Email Friday night or Saturday morning

We will email our principal callback list either Friday night at 11:00pm or Saturday morning at 6:00am. We don't want our cast to be in painful knots waiting for the callback list to come out.

This list will be inviting individual actors/actresses back the following day to read and sing sides for various parts.

Dance Auditions

Saturday, September 16th, 10:00 - 12:00

EVERYONE who auditioned will come for dance call backs the next morning from 10:00 to 12:00. Come in clothes appropriate for dancing. Bring jazz and tap shoes if you have them.

Callbacks

Saturday, March 23rd, 12:30 - 6:00

Callbacks are by invitation only. Invitations will be sent by e-mail Friday night. IF you are given a callback it will list the part we are considering you for. (There may be more than one character we will call you back for.)

If you are listed in the email for a principal callback then please bring food, water and a quiet activity with you on March 23rd. You are in for a long day! The directorial team and show coordinator will provide sides (scenes and songs from Tarzan). We provide these materials so that you may rehearse and become familiar with the scenes prior to us asking you to perform them.

You may have a lot to do during callbacks or it may be a fairly boring day. That is part of the nature of callbacks.

Casting

By Email

Casting is universally considered the hardest and worst part of a show. It is painful for our directorial team because we see so much talent and heart in our actors and actresses. We want to bless them all and reward them for amazing auditions but alas there are only so many named characters in a show.

We will have set windows that the cast list will go out at.

The soonest would be Tuesday at 4:00pm.

If not Tuesday at 4:00pm we will release it Tuesday at 6:00pm.

If not Tuesday at 6:00pm  we will release it Tuesday at 8:00pm.

If not Tuesday at 8:00pm we will release it Tuesday at 10:00pm.

If not Tuesday at 10:00pm we will release it Wednesday at 6:00am.
